Mail app is missing on Redmi 5 phone

Almost every Android phone has stock email app preinstalled Mail app is missing on Redmi 5 phone

Almost every Android phone has stock email app preinstalled. Same is the case with Mi phones I had previously used- Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4. The default Mi Mail App is pretty decent and I had used it extensively both for work and personal emails. But in the recent Mi Redmi 5 phone purchase, I was surprised not to find the stock Mi Mail app preinstalled. As per Mi forums, the Mail app is also missing on other Mi phones as well. In this post, we shall see how to get the Mi Mail App if you want and also see other alternatives.

If you are one of those who use mails on Android phone, there are various options. There are several email apps on Google Play that you can download and use with almost any email provider.

However, it you want the Mi Mail app, you can get the Mi Mail app APK here:

Click on the above link to download the Mi Mail App.

If you have another Mi phone on which Mi Mail app is installed, then you can also export the APK of the Mi Mail and install it on the new phone. To extract and export the APK from the old phone, you can find and install any app share app from Google Play. From within the app share app, you can export the APK via Bluetooth to the new phone.

In one of the Mi Forums, it was mentioned that Mi Mail may be present but it may be disabled by default. This is weird as there is no reason why a mail app should be disabled by default. Anyways, I checked on Redmi 5 but did not find Mail app at all.

In case you want to check and confirm, you can do the following:

1) Go the the settings
2) Scroll to "installed apps" and tap on it
3) In the apps list, scroll down or search for the Mail app (just type "mail" and search)

4) If you can find the Mail app and if there is a red icon next to the Mail app name, it is disabled.
4) Click on the app and scroll down the screen and tap on "enable" option.
5) If the Mail app is found and you were able to enable it, it should now be visible on your phone.

Other Mail alternatives:
  • Gmail app which is preinstalled on Android phone can also be used to setup other emails also.
  • Microsoft Outlook app for Android is also a decent mail app I found.
There are several mail apps on Google Play that may also do the job.
